Privacy
What happens to your data when you use look&find, in plain words.
The short version
- No account, no forms, no newsletter, no payments.
- Only the cookies the site needs to work. No analytics, no advertising cookies, no profiles.
- To answer a search we pass on your search words, never your IP address: to a web search provider, a shopping data provider, and the AI models of Anthropic, OpenAI and Google.
- We keep no search history. Your last search can stay in your session for 2 hours after your last page, and a click on a shop link records the shop page you went to.
- When you click a shop link we can earn from, we record the click, with your IP address, so that we get paid.

When you open a page
Every time your browser loads a page, it sends our server some technical data: your IP address, the page’s address (with your search words, if you searched), the time, your browser and operating system (the user agent), your preferred languages and the page you came from. That’s how the web works. Here is what we do with it.
Hosting
look&find runs on servers we rent from a hosting provider, which processes this data only on our behalf and on our instructions.
Server logs
Our web server writes every request, with the data above, to a log. We use the logs to keep the site running, find errors and fend off attacks, and delete them after 14 days.
Error logs
When something breaks, our software logs the error. These logs are about our software, not about you, but a line can include part of the search it broke on, and errors on the way to a shop can include your IP address and browser. We delete error logs after 14 days, and those about shop clicks after 3 days.
Your country
To show shops and prices for your country, we look up the country of your IP address in a database on our own server. Your IP address isn’t sent anywhere for this. A country you pick yourself always wins.
Your language
We show the site in the language your browser asks for, unless you pick another one.
Fonts
The typefaces come from our own server, with the page, so no font service learns of your visit.
Limits against abuse
Searches cost us money, so we count how often each IP address (for IPv6, each /64 network) asks for them, and for pictures. Past a limit, answers pause for a while. The counters sit in our server’s cache and expire within 1 day at most.
Your session
Each visit has a short session, kept on our server and renewed with every page you open. It holds a security token, the address of the last page you opened (which can include your search words) and, after a shop click, the shop page you were heading to. It ends 2 hours after your last page.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest in a website that works, is secure and can’t be abused (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
When you search
To answer a search, we pass on only what each source needs: your search words, the country you search in, the site’s language and your filters (like “past week”). Our server does the asking, so none of these services gets your IP address, your browser details or a cookie of yours.
Web results
Web results come from a web search provider based in the United States. It receives your search words, the country, the language, the safe-search setting, the time filter and which page of results you want. We keep its results for 2 minutes only, so that the parts of one results page don’t search twice.
AI answers
To write the answer and the other takes, we send your search words, your country, and the titles, addresses and short excerpts of the top 10 web results to Anthropic (Claude), OpenAI (ChatGPT) and Google (Gemini), all in the United States. They get nothing else about you. Each handles these requests under its own API terms and may keep them for a limited time, for example to detect abuse. We keep the answers for up to 1 hour, so the same question on the same pages isn’t asked twice.
Products
With every search, your search words, country and language also go to a shopping data provider based in Israel, which looks them up on Google Shopping for us (for a search within one shop, with the shop’s name). When you open a product, it is looked up the same way. Neither of them learns who you are. We keep the results for 15 minutes, and a product’s details for up to 1 day, for anyone who asks for the same thing.
Suggestions as you type
As you type, your browser sends the letters so far, the site’s language and your country to our server. Our server asks a keyword and shop catalogue service for matching shops and popular searches; it receives the letters, the language and the country, nothing about you. We keep suggestions for 1 hour, and your browser keeps them for 5 minutes.
Pictures
Site icons and the pictures next to results reach your browser through our own server, and product photos come inside the page, so your browser doesn’t contact other websites for them. Shop icons are fetched once by our server and kept there.
Photo search
If you pick a photo with “Search by photo”, it stays on your device. We don’t upload it.
We keep no search history and build no profiles. Apart from the caches above, which aren’t linked to you, your search words show up in our server logs and your session, as part of a page address, and now and then in an error log, when something breaks while we answer. Today’s browsers tell the sites you open from look&find only that you came from lookandfind.me, not what you searched for.
Legal basis: giving you the results you asked for (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) and our legitimate interest in a fast, affordable search (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
When you click a shop link
Links to shops go through our redirect, lookandfind.me/out. When we have an affiliate partnership with that shop for your country, the click continues through our click tracker and the affiliate network to the shop; otherwise it goes straight to the shop.
For a click through an affiliate partnership, we record:
- the time, the shop, the page you’re going to and where on look&find you clicked (a price, a web result, a suggestion),
- a click ID, which the affiliate network gets in the link,
- your IP address and your country,
- your user agent and what your browser says about itself: browser, operating system, device type, languages and similar hints,
- the domain of the page you came from,
- an ID made from your IP address and browser that changes every day.
We use this to get our commission credited and paid, and to spot fraud and automated clicks. From us, the affiliate network gets the click ID, the address of the shop page you’re going to and, for some networks, our site’s address; your IP address and browser details reach the network and the shop straight from your browser, as with any website you open.
Click records stay on our server for 10 days, and in our commission accounting for as long as we need them to settle and check commissions with the networks.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest in paying for look&find through commissions and in preventing fraud (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Cookies of networks and shops
On the way, the affiliate network and the shop may set cookies of their own, on their own domains, so that the sale is credited to us. They are responsible for those, and their privacy policies explain them. Blocking third-party cookies in your browser stops most of this; your purchase works just the same.
Cookies and storage in your browser
We use only what the site needs to work and what you ask for: no analytics, advertising or social media cookies. That’s why we don’t ask for your consent. This is everything look&find keeps in your browser:
| Name | What it’s for | How long |
|---|---|---|
lookandfind-session |
Your session, see When you open a page. | 2 hours after your last page |
XSRF-TOKEN |
Protects you from forged requests sent from other websites. | 2 hours after your last page |
lang |
The language you picked. Set only when you pick one. | 1 year |
country |
The country for your results: the one you picked, or the one a results link you opened was set to. | 1 year |
lf-theme |
Light or dark, once you switch. | Until you delete it |
lf-recent |
Your last 6 searches, which the home page offers again. They never leave your browser. | Until you delete it |
lf-locale-recent |
The countries and languages you picked recently, which the country and language picker offers again. They never leave your browser. | Until you delete it |
Local storage is a small store in your browser that only our pages can read. Nothing in it is sent to us.
Legal basis: these are strictly necessary for the site or for something you asked for (regulation 6(4) PECR, Art. 5(3) ePrivacy Directive), and our legitimate interest in a site that works (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). You can delete them in your browser’s settings at any time; the site keeps working, it just forgets your choices.
Data outside the UK and the EU
Some services we use are outside the UK and the European Union: the web search provider, Anthropic, OpenAI and Google in the United States, and the shopping data provider in Israel. We send them data only with the safeguards the law asks for: an adequacy decision (the UK and the EU recognise Israel, and US companies certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and its UK Extension) or standard contractual clauses (with the UK Addendum).
Our company is in the United Kingdom, which the EU recognises as protecting personal data adequately.
